Medals for History

WHat is a medal in history

The Laws of the Society make provision for the General Committee to solicit essay submissions on the subject of History, which will be judged by a panel of professors and with the best essay awarded a Gold or Silver Medal in History. The Essayist will be awarded a Medal of the Society, a cash prize, and the Marked Thanks of the Society. Traditionally, they may have been called on by the General Committee to present their Essay to the House, with other speakers being called on to respond to the essay in a meeting similar to that of the Inaugural meeting.

Past recipients of the Society’s medals in history include the first President of Ireland, Douglas Hyde, and republican revolutionary, Theobald Wolfe Tone.

Short of an unanimous decision from our panel of independent adjudicators, we have decided to give our Silver Medal for History for the 254th session to the most highly-scored submission. We would like to congratulate Malika Maniar for her winning submission!
