The Hist is a terrific complement to the academic side of university life. The crucible of the debating chamber hones invaluable skills, including how to think on your feet, how to present and defend a cogent argument and how to manage the cut and thrust of robust exchange. The need to defend or oppose a specific motion teaches you to respect both sides of an argument. The running of the Society provides early insights into group dynamics and forges enduring friendships. The constant stream of distinguished outside speakers is a unique opportunity to interact with successful people from all walks of life. When I look back on my time in Trinity, my degree taught me the theory of life, The Hist helped me to learn it.
