The Hist was a very important part of my life as a Trinity undergraduate. While I did much of public speaking at Students’ Union events, many friends were Hist committee members and the Wednesday evening debates (and post-debate drinks sessions!) were an essential feature o four weekly social calendar. We were privileged to hear speeches at the GMB from the most significant political figures of the time - speakers like Arthur Scargill and Mary Robinson made vital contributions to public discourse through appearing at the Hist. As a Trinity senator and academic on campus, I have remained actively engaged with the Hist over the years and always enjoy contributing to debates myself - I know how hugely relevant the Hist remains for our current college community, and I look forward to joining in the celebrations for 2020.
